Oh, It’s You!
Hello again, winter. After spending most of the last several seasons in the mild embrace of San Diego, I admit that I haven’t thought about you all that much. I realize that’s harsh of me, but what can I say? It was easy to be distracted.
What are the odds I would run into you here in Boston? Oh, I know I haven’t seen much of you so far. But the past couple mornings I’ve noticed you lingering, even if from a distance. Something tells me you plan to be around a lot more in the near future. That’s why I thought we should have this chat.
Look, I respect you a lot. I admit that I enjoy wearing sweaters and coats after not needing them for the past few years. But the novelty is wearing off fast, and it’s time to face the fact that this relationship isn’t going to work for either of us.
I need space, winter. You’re crowding me, and I feel we could use some time apart. What, you need me to come out and say it? Fine! I want to see other seasons. I’m expecting a call from spring, who I don’t mind telling you is a lot more pleasant, if just as temperamental.
I’m not saying we can’t be friends. A brief visit every so often would be swell. But we’ve barely gotten to know each other again and you’ve already put way too much junk in my closet. Let’s end this now, before things get any more awkward.
Um, why are you still here? What do you mean you’re not going anywhere? But… but…
Oh, damn it.

Wow Steve, that was….umm….special! =P LOL!
Having a little trouble adjusting to the beantown coldness are we? Don’t worry, you’ll get used to it. No, you really will! A few hefty bouts of strep throat or the flu and that weather won’t bother you one bit! Trust me!
Meanwhile, I’m more than happy to report on how wonderful it is back in San Diego, if it’ll make you feel better. Mwahahaha! =)
As good as I am at dealing with Wisconsin winters, I have to be honest: It doesn’t take more than 3-4 days someplace warm to turn me into a real wuss when I get back to winter. I can only imagine what a couple of years away would do….
I would be more then happy to just be back in the States enjoying any of the various weathers
I have no idea what the weather’s like in Boston — and really, why should I care? — but back home here in Minnesota, which I know you remember fondly, it was two below zero this morning with a windchill of -24. Of course, there’s no snow, so who’s complaining?
Grow some back hair. That’ll keep ya warm.
“Grow”? My back looks like a bearskin rug.
Glad you look at the sunny side, D-Man.
Back hair? Ummm… too much information.
I moved back to Boston after 10 years in San Diego. I feel your pain
On a good note, Xmas will seem like Xmas again!
so when are your gmg forums going to open? im basically going to be your favorite community member ever, just saying that now so you remember it when it happens
ROFL.
I’m sorry about laughing at you…..well not really. I have been a life long New Englander and when traveling around the country I have seen people dawning thick winter jackets in 50 degree weather, to me that is light jacket weather.
A couple years here and you’ll wounder why all those crazy people around the US complain about the cold, cause they don’t know cold!! If you want to accelerate your acclimation to the winter go spend a weekend on top of Mt. Washington.
Remind me when you head back to Sunny Minneapolis after putting up with bitterly cold Boston.
I moved to Richmond, VA from Long Beach, CA, so I know how you feel to a certain extent (though Richmond fares much better than Boston does during the winter).
I honestly tend to think that Californians don’t have the same respect for nature and life that those who have sat through a hurricane, tornado, and/or a few feet of snow that close down all the roads have. Sure, they have the strictest environmental standards, a plethora of environmental protection special interest groups, etc, but there’s nothing quite like having your life threatened by a naturally occurring phenomenon to change your perspective on life (and earthquakes are way too infrequent to count).
I’m from Minnesota. Most of my summers have been spent with tornado sirens blaring several times a season.
One of the nicest things about San Diego was not having to worry about any life-threatening weather. Though the lack of seasons was boring, it does have its perks.
Snark… that hurts. Everyone knows I’m GMG fanboy #1.
I wanna see some fanboy wrestling for the title. Yeah. Mmmhmmm!
Dance off!
