Part 3 – The Arrival
I can finally write the last part of my “moving across the nation” post.
In what will be a surprise to few of you, I am now living in the Boston area where I work for Green Monster Games. I waited until today to talk about it because a press release was planned to announce the hiring of a bunch of us.
This is a very exciting move for me and one I did not make lightly. I really loved my work on EQ2 and had many great friends at SOE, but GMG is an incredible opportunity. It came up rather suddenly, but sometimes there are chances in life that you just know are right. This is one of those, and I’m fortunate it came my way. The level of talent here is unbelievable, with more coming on board in the months ahead.
I’m not going to write a lot about the company on this site, because part of my job is going to be helping folks get more familiar with us over the course of our development. There has been no shortage of rumors and assumptions about GMG, especially considering the three big-name guys involved in the project. What I will say is that yes, we are a real game studio, not just a bunch of rich guys working on a vanity project. If we didn’t have some extremely experienced team members with a strong direction and drive, this isn’t something I would have become involved with.
It’s going to be an amazing next few years. In the meantime, I will need to adapt to the New England lifestyle. Thankfully, Curt assured me that it doesn’t really snow here and the coldest day during winter is about 50 degrees. I know I’m in good hands.

HA! I knew it! Ok, it was a lucky guess.
Congrats on the new job.
Woot. Going to be some good things coming out of GMG me thinks…
Grats, Moorguard, and to your buddies there
We expect great things and lots of fun from you!
LOL! Oh man, you know… Curt’s full of BS if he said that to you.. I lived about two hours north near Portland, Maine until just this past June, when ironically I moved to San Diego.. I recall freezing my tail off quite a few times last season, and shoveling out a co-workers vehicle that got plowed in and encased with ice! Yeah.. this should be quite an adventure for you and Ryan.. That said, I’d switch places with you in a heartbeat so seriously man.. CONGRATS! =)
[...] Danuser has more here, on his blog. More on this news in about (checks watch)… four years or so. [...]
Press release on EoF launch day….no way is that a coincidence
Sounds like a fun startup to be a part of, though. I know, at the very least, that Curt and RA have good taste in the games they’ve been hooked on in the past, so hopefully they have the mindset to make a new breed that holds up to that level of quality.
Wow. Blackguard AND Moorgard added to GMG…
I don’t know WHAT is being cooked up over there, but when it’s ready I know I’m going to want a taste of it. And most likely I’ll be back for nths =)
That actually was a coincidence, believe it or not. The release was originally going to go out last week, then moved to Monday, then obviously today. We realized after the fact that it would look intentional, but I assure you it wasn’t.
Todd McFarlane !!! Now I’m intrested.
Oh, Grats on the level up on your new career.
“the coldest day during winter is about 50 degrees.”
Hmm, is it too late to sue for breach of contract?
Congrats on the new move- sounds like quite the dream team forming there.
Congratulations! Looks like good things coming…
Congrats on the move and the job. Hopefully the east coast won’t be too rough for a Vikings fan, though I see that Favre seems to have quickly chased you out of the Midwest.
Congrats my friends, New England does suck… As I posted on your moving cross country entry, I moved here (here = Western Massachusetts, aka Hippyville) from New Mexico. I haven’t been to Boston yet, but let me tell you the snow rules here. It snows very fast usually for a few hours, then remains on the ground for a few weeks, depending on the time of year, and then it snows again. Again, congrats to all, and I still cannot find where Maynard is on my damn atlas…
Give my best to Todd. Congrats!
As long as you hate the Yankees, you’re welcome here!
Not to Bethesda then? Interestingly enough I mentioned Mr. Schilling to a RL friend and presented upon counterinformation two world series wins. In counterinformation I mean I did not know he was at one point a DiamondBack, that tidbit was provided to me as recognition of who he is, ironically. So… we expect grand things from this, naturally.
Best of luck and thank you for the Where In The World Is Moorgard, Sandiego? game.
Welcome to Boston!!! Great to see a good addition to this fine city. HAHA about the weather, as it is currently 37 degrees here, and was down below 25 last night.
I just hope that your first day there wasn’t like my sisters…she had a car dropped on her car while she was eating lunch at McDonalds. They just sat down when a flatbed tow-truck turned badly and the car it was carrying slid off and landed on my sisters car.
