Serving Two Masters
I haven’t been in a blogging mood lately. This site is a creative outlet for me, but right now I’m in a phase at work where I am doing a large amount of creative writing (story, dialogue) and that is kind of taking up the bulk of my inspiration.
There are different degrees of creative output, of course. If I’m writing something I don’t feel exceptionally attached to, I usually still have a fair amount of juice left over to pour into posts on this site or long, drawn-out diatribes on the EQ2 boards. But when I’m really in love with a certain project and want it to be the best it can possibly be (as is true in what I’m doing right now), it can take a lot out of me. When I get home from work I want to watch TV, read a comic book, or play the game for a while–anything where I can soak up the creativity of others and recharge my batteries a bit.
The fact that E3 is coming next week doesn’t help. I’ll be one of the folks giving a presentation centered on our upcoming expansion. I’m very excited about it because I feel quite close to this project, as it has been the main focus of my work since late last year. But as anyone who works the show can tell you, E3 itself is like a vampire that drains you slowly over the course of three days. By Friday, I expect to be in full-on undead mode.
One thing I did want to mention is my participation in a new site called MMO Round Table. This is mostly Shwayder’s brainchild, combining his posts with mine and some jackass who calls himself Aggro. We’d like to add more writers to our little freakshow as we encounter those of similar temperament. The site collects the latest posts from each of us, and is intended to act as a jumping-off point into the deeper well of our mutual dispair.
The other major feature of MMO Round Table is the forums page. Though it currently has a horrible color scheme (OMG FIX IT SHWAYDER!!!), it will serve as a unified format for talking about the articles we post, as well as general game design theory. There’s a specific Moorgard board that I’ll try to visit with some regularity. The key word being “try.”
So for those of you wondering: yes, we are making a vain attempt to take over the MMO blogging universe. We’re trying to mmonopolize (get it?) gaming discussion, or at least make a dent. And after E3 next week, there will be even more to talk about. Trust me.

Doh I get my time on Friday at E3… want me to bring you some Redbull? :p
btw I been snooping the MMO roundtable and they got some really good discussions going on there.

Excellent! I’ve been enjoying lurking around the site. Personally, I like the color scheme.
“mmonopolize” – Ugh. Groan…
That’s so very massively multiplayer, I was sorry I went and read everyone else’s blogs then followed your link because it was deja vu.
[...] This doesn’t come as news to my regular readers, but I thought that since Aggro Me did such a nice write-up on it and Moorgard attempted to lay all the blame on its existence on me, I better say something else about it. So, what in the world is MMO Round Table? It’s a collaborative project in which myself, Moorgard, and Aggro Me have come together to become a mmonopoly (you wouldn’t believe how much laughing went on when Moorgard and I started trying to say that word out loud) in the MMO game discussion space. [...]
[...] While the quantity of blogs on MMOs is somewhat hard to keep up with, there’s some truly great thoughts out there. Several of my favourite daily reads have recently gotten together to form a self described MMO Round Table. [...]
