I Am a Patriot

Today is Patriots Day. What the hell is that? Many of my transplanted coworkers (read: pretty much all of us) asked the very same thing when we first heard of it. It’s a mostly local holiday celebrating events from the Revolutionary War. There are parades, battle re-encactments, a home game from the Sox, and the running of the Boston Maraton.

Many local businesses are closed, including 38 Studios (although I’m writing this from the office… don’t ask). You can also thank Patriots Day for your taxes being due a day later this year, because the processing office is located in Massachusetts and thus all the employees get the day off. I thought they might call off the holiday since Captain America was murdered, but it seems to be taking place nonetheless.

I imagine most celebrations of Patriots Day are pleasant spring affairs, but this year we have downpours of rain that are causing flooding in some areas. The marathon was still run and the Sox are still playing, so sports fans should be happy.

Okay, time for me to salvage the rest of this holiday and get out of here. I should be out enjoying the fact that Curt Schilling has to pay me for sitting on my ass somewhere other than the office.
