It makes me wonder... you and that nerfherder Ryan point out the obvious that even a lowly PR coffee maker would know. Yet some MMO companies seem oblivious to even the most basic CS marketing techniques. Please email me and call me a wanker unless i play your game. Yes, that works well.

Come back to our game. It was never that bad, and your hardware sucked anyway - but that was 12 months ago. However we forgive you, so here's 14 days free as long as you subscribe with your credit card and we sincerely hope you forget how to cancel.

Do people fall for this?

Well, if you get Mr T to pity the fool, or have Kirk explaining how good shammies are, then yes.

Why not just cut to the chase and buy an ad that says "The Fury Team want to make you their bitch!" When will we (that is, game industry marketers) learn the painful Daikatana object lesson--antagonizing players just doesn't work. The bummer here is that they seem to have some decent messaging to build a promotion around, but they blow it with the hostile intro. I'd love to see the conversion rate from this.

Not sure if I would bother with Fury if 1st prize was a Cadillac Eldorado and 2nd prize was a set of steak knives.

That aside, shame advertising wouldn't work for me. I want to play a game to be engaged and enjoy what I'm doing, and I don't really care if I'm winning or "losing." That is, unless it's Wolf/Sheep, soul-crushing PVP. I wouldn't be interested in that in any case as I know which category I would fall into.

If your game doesn't speak for itself, taunting me isn't going to make it look more appealing. Weaksauce.
